Proposed Rates Bill Calculator
Effective July 1, 2023, the SFPUC Commission has approved water and sewer rates increase for fiscal years ending in 2024 - 2026.
As part of these proposed new water and sewer rates, the way the sewer portion of your bill is calculated will change to better align our rates with the cost of serving our customers. The new structure will split the sewer portion of your bill into two parts: a wastewater charge and stormwater charge. Each will be calculated separately. The wastewater portion of the bill will be based on the estimated volume of sewage discharged, whereas the stormwater charge will be based on the amount of stormwater runoff that flows off each property.
Before you use the calculator tool:
- Have a recent water and sewer bill nearby to reference while using the calculator
- Refer to the SF Property Information Map to find your property’s total area.*
* You will soon be able to look up your property’s measured permeable and impermeable areas on our online mapping tool. In San Francisco, the typical non-residential property is 95% impermeable. If you are a residential customer, please note that most residential properties fall within the 1701-3300 square feet range and will not need to provide impermeable and permeable areas.

*The proposed bill calculator includes the drought surcharge that was in effect. Based on systemwide hydrologic conditions and water storage in the SFPUC’s reservoirs, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission formally rescinded the Water Shortage Emergency Declaration at our April 11, 2023 Commission Meeting. The drought surcharge was lifted, effective May 1, 2023. The updated bill calculator does not include the drought surcharge.
