Construction Update as of August 19, 2022
Pipeline Connection, Concrete Base, and Curb Ramp Construction Continues
M2, the Contractor is connecting individual residences along Ashbury Street and Clifford Terrace. They are pouring a concrete base for the trenches along 17th Street from Ord Street to Clayton Street.
Final asphalt paving is scheduled August 29-30 for 17th Street from Douglass to Temple Street; Temple Street from 17th Street to Saturn Street; and Saturn Street from Lower Terrace to the end.
Final asphalt paving is scheduled August 31-September 1 for 17th Street from Temple Street to Clayton Street; and Mars Street from 17th to Corbett.
Final concrete paving is scheduled August 29-September 9 for Clifford Terrace from Upper Terrace to Ashbury Street. Twenty-Five of the 26 concrete panels are all on the odd-numbered side of the street. The even numbered side will remain open for traffic. The concrete work is planned to be built in four sections daily. When the work commences in front of a residence, the crew will demolish the roadway, build new forms and pour the concrete. This will deny access to that driveway for 24 hours while the concrete hardens. That driveway would be reopened at the beginning of the following day.
It is SFPUC policy that residents retain access to their driveways and garages throughout construction, but this is a special situation whereby the concrete needs time to harden (called “curing”) without being subjected to weight bearing traffic.
Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We will provide traffic control, but residents may experience delays up to ten minutes when entering and leaving the work area. If you have special needs, please call us and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
What to Expect During Construction
Equipment and materials will be temporarily located in your neighborhood during construction (mostly on side streets). After installation of the new water pipeline, crews will transfer water services, install fire hydrants and make final connections. Once construction is completed, material and equipment will be removed within 1 to 2 weeks.
Parking will be restricted during construction hours. We apologize for this inconvenience and assure you parking will be restored as soon as possible. Please see posted barricade signs for exact work days, hours, locations, as they may vary depending on construction task.
The asphalt paving applied daily is temporary and designed to provide a safe road surface during construction. Final paving will occur after pipeline work is completed. It may take up to 30 days or longer before final paving is complete.
Connection of services
Crews will disinfect and clean new water main pipes. You will be notified with a door hanger, regarding any planned water service interruption to your property. This is usually done after all pipeline work is completed.
Final construction activities
Crews will perform final paving after pipeline work is completed. Once completed crews will remove equipment, cleanup site and perform final inspection of site.
