This project consists of two distinct components; improvements and upsizing of the existing network of combined sewer pipes and boxes within the vicinity of Folsom and 17th referred to as the “upstream components”; and constructing a large stormwater tunnel to convey the large volume of stormwater during heavy rains to the outfall at 7th and Channel Street.
Project Scope
- Construct a 3,500 linear foot, 12-foot internal diameter tunnel from the vicinity of Alameda/Treat Streets to the vicinity of 7th/Berry Streets
- Construct nearly 12,500 linear feet of sewer pipes to divert wastewater flow towards the new tunnel infrastructure

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) recently launched the Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP), a 20-year citywide investment to upgrade our aging sewer system and provide a more reliable, sustainable, and seismically safe system now and for future generations.
