Bill Relief Coming Soon to Hetch Hetchy Power Customers

  • Cassidy Wallerstein

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the SFPUC secured $10.9 million in federal and state funding to provide emergency financial assistance for SFPUC customers to help pay their utility bills.

However, financial hardships continue for many customers throughout San Francisco. To further support their customers, the SFPUC recently secured over $90,000 in additional California Arrearage Payment Program (CAPP) funding for Hetch Hetchy Power customers who face financial hardship and have difficulty paying their electric bills.

The California Arrearage Payment Program bill credit is courtesy of a state program to help pay energy bills that increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers do not need to apply to receive assistance under this program and will automatically see a bill credit on their energy bill. To qualify to receive CAPP funding, customers must have an unpaid energy bill over 60 days past due incurred between March 4, 2020, and December 31, 2021. Qualifying Hetch Hetchy Power customers will see the CAPP bill credit applied to their electricity bills this spring.

In addition to Hetch Hetchy Power customers, the SFPUC also secured $1.24 million in CAPP funding for CleanPowerSF customers. The funds will be applied to qualifying customers PG&E bill.

In addition to CAPP, Hetch Hetchy Power also offers flexible payment plans, discount programs, and more. Qualifying customers can apply to the SFPUC’s Customer Assistance Program, which provides a 30% monthly discount on Hetch Hetchy Power electric bills.
