‘Tis the Season to Shine Bright: San Francisco’s Best Holiday Lights!

‘Tis the Season to Shine Bright: San Francisco’s Best Holiday Lights!
  • Donald Pollitt II

Throughout the holiday season, there are many great places to see festive lights in San Francisco.  Thanks to Hetch Hetchy Power and CleanPowerSF, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is powering many of your favorite holiday light displays across the City with clean energy.

Whether you are looking for festive drive-through displays, a walk-through display, or a beautiful City filled with sparkling lights, there’s a bit of something for every lover of festive fun to enjoy. Here are a few of our favorite displays to help you celebrate with family and friends to make memories that will last a lifetime!

Salesforce Transit Center Holiday Lights
Coined as the “Grand Central Station of the West,” the Salesforce Transit Center is an iconic landmark in downtown San Francisco with a stunning rooftop park. Owned by the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) and in coordination with the East Cut Community Benefit District, the rooftop park will sparkle with festive lights this holiday season. Check out the lights and other free activities the TJPA is hosting throughout December.

Let’s Glow SF
Considered America’s largest holiday projection mapping event, Let’s Glow SF is a visual art installation that projects virtual images from local and international artists on downtown buildings nightly from December 2 to 11. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and see if you can find them all!

Castro Street House
This Castro District house could be one of the most festive (and environmentally friendly) homes in San Francisco thanks to its three stories lined with lights, stockings, and ornaments. This gem of a holiday house must be experienced in person!

Christmas Cable Cars
Cable car bells ring, are you listening? No experience is uniquely San Francisco more than a cable car ride! The famed cable car will be decked out in holiday décor and ready for you and the family to enjoy this holiday season.

HapPIER Holidays
Pier 39 is spreading cheer on the San Francisco Waterfront this holiday season. Experience the wonder of a 60-foot-tall Christmas tree that is synchronized to holiday music and transformed into a kaleidoscope of swirling colors adorned with specialty lights and ornaments. Get into the spirit of the season at Pier 39, and if you are lucky, you might spy a sea lion, too!

“Entwined” Winter Wonderland
Entwined’s forest of illuminated color will once again light up Golden Gate Park’s Peacock Meadow this winter. “Entwined,” by San Francisco artist Charles Gadeken, creates a whimsical wonderland where visitors can explore twisting paths, colorful trees, large flowering clusters, and constantly changing vistas of light. Inspired by nature, this interactive art installation will enchant visitors of all ages from December 1 through March 12, 2023.

City Hall
Every year, City Hall gets in the holiday spirit by glowing red and green to celebrate all the December holidays such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s. Civic Center Plaza will also join in on the festivities as a beautiful Christmas tree and holiday lights will be on display for all to enjoy.

The SFPUC wishes you and yours a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!
